My name is Peter "TahitiPetey" Ortmann, Founder and President of the TahitiPetey® Foundation, a private, mostly family funded non-profit Society based in British Columbia, Canada.
My wife, Corrin, and I have gone through many unbelievable life challenges the past eight years as we worked tirelessly to launch and fund our many Foundation programs. Despite these challenges we remain determined to build a powerful new voice for our oceans.
Over the past several years we have grown disgusted with the way many people view the oceans and the impact that our use of one-time use, convenience-based plastic product waste has on our oceans, marine life or even the impact on our own health. We aim to change these views.
In January 2010, the Foundation sold off many of its proposed ventures, and partners with an offshore ventures group to further develop our old social network the StarFish Organization. By June 2010 this new group will reintroduce the StarFish social site and SandDollar$ program under a new name.
The best part is that we will receive 20% of all monthly membership dues to help fund our Clear Blue Oceans initiative and Marissa's Reef project, our two primary objectives as we move forward today.
Our Clear Blue OCEANS initiative is designed to increase awareness of the need to change the way we all view and use convenience-based plastic food and beverage containers and plastic bags.
We will set out to educate people everywhere on just how the plastic products we use daily reach all oceans worldwide and kill millions of fishes and marine life annually. We will spread the truth about plastic waste, sea level rise and the over-fishing of our largest natural food source - the oceans.
To better understand just how much we have damaged our oceans over the past 50 years, please watch the short video below featuring Dr. Sylvia Earle, a well-respected marine scientist as she shares some truly unbelievable facts you need to know!
As Ms. Earle says in the video, "NO Blue, No Green" and we certainly agree. It is up to all of us to collectively make the word BLUE as powerful and important as the word Green is today. Not just through eco-statements and words, but by becoming a more sustainable ourselves.
A very personal project of mine, one I have attempted to launch for the past several years, is called Marissa's Reef For Heavenly Helpers. It is designed to become a living aquatic memorial to honor my Granddaughter Marissa Reyes, who was suddenly swept to her death at the age of seven in a sudden flash flood in August 2005. An event that forever changed my family and me.
Our web site has more on both of the above projects, and we are now developing seperate web sites for each one. In time, we will share hundreds of links to useful ocean web sites, news articles, publications and eco-products, and share the messages of our sponsors and advertisers who help make it all possible.
We can no longer keep our heads in the sand and ignore our oceans, their importance or pending Climate Change impact on our lives . We MUST become more aware and address the problems we face.
To help fund our programs please consider purchasing an e-book copy of my bookTragic Satisfaction or a logo branded product in our online PeteyStore. We are not a charity, so your purchases are not tax deductable, but it will help us acomplish our goals.
Working Together we can and will accomplish our goals.
